Proud anniversary in Franconia

100 years of camping in Franconian Switzerland 70 and 30 are the proud years of existence of the Franconian Switzerland Campsite and Pottenstein Motorhome Park in the heart of Franconian Switzerland. A joint anniversary will be celebrated in June 2024.

Together, the Fränkische Schweiz campsite in picturesque Tüchersfeld and the Pottenstein motorhome park will be celebrating 100 years on the calendar this year. The two campsites are located in the heart of Franconian Switzerland, one of the oldest tourist regions in Germany, and are only around five kilometres apart. The two campsites, which are under the same management, will be celebrating their joint anniversary in the week from 7 to 16 June 2024. The Fränkische Schweiz campsite is celebrating 70 years and the Pottenstein motorhome park 30 years. With its 25 pitches and facilities including electricity columns and a central disposal station, the latter is absolutely in line with the trend of the ever-growing motorhome tourism. Definitely a worthwhile address for all motorhome travellers. At the Fränkische Schweiz campsite, families and young people as well as clubs, school classes and groups will all find a suitable pitch. Smaller motorhomes and vans are also welcome here.

Festive programme and active leisure activities Anniversary holidaymakers can look forward to a varied festive programme.

To kick off the first weekend, a Schafkopf tournament will be held on Saturday 8 June, followed by a chess tournament on Sunday afternoon.

During the following week, you can devote yourself entirely to the scenic attractions and diverse leisure activities in Franconian Switzerland, which are within easy reach of both campsites. For example, you can go hiking or cycling on an extensive network of paths between romantic castles, rock formations and half-timbered houses, or get an adrenaline kick in the leisure park at the “Pottensteiner Erlebnisfelsen” with a rapid descent on the Frankenbob or a ride on the so-called witches’ broom. The Skywalk, the treetop path with views down into the Püttlachtal valley below, and the neighbouring Pottenstein climbing garden offer a fabulous high-altitude experience. On- and off-road fun can be found in the E-Fun Park and a well-earned dip in Pottenstein’s natural rock pool afterwards. On the other hand, things are quieter on a canoe trip on the Schöngrundsee lake or when exploring the numerous caves in Franconian Switzerland. Ambitious climbers will also find themselves in an Eldorado for this sport in this region. You can even climb up a rock right next to the campsite, and children can practise on the neighbouring children’s rock.

On the second anniversary weekend, 15 and 16 June, the camping site in Tüchersfeld will host a further programme of festivities, with entertainment music in the marquee on Saturday evening and a big children’s party on Sunday afternoon.

First hiking, then celebrating

The traditionally popular WBS triathlon is also on the programme for Saturday, 15 June. A hiking competition in three different categories including drinks and a culinary finale. Participants will first take the bus to the respective starting point. In accordance with the applicable WBS criteria, the triathletes in the Gold 20km, Silver 12.5km and Bronze 7.5km categories will hike back to the campsite along a set route via service points (for refreshments).

In addition, each triathlete will receive a snack bag including a drink, bread roll and “Wienerle” for refreshment along the way. The “Wienerle” because the world-famous sausages are actually genuine Franconian, invented by a local butcher from Gasseldorf not far from the two camping areas. At the end of the hike, the Franconian “Schäuferla”, which is part of the triathlon, is served in the marquee. The special challenge of the competition after the previous sporting exertion is to polish off 500 grams. Registration via the homepage of the Fränkische Schweiz campsite, recognising the conditions of participation, is required in any case.

By the way: You can find out more about the history of the “Wienerle”, which has been around for over 200 years, at BR. As a souvenir of an eventful “anniversary holiday”, you can also buy popular souvenirs such as T-shirts, polo shirts, caps, etc.
